Los Ebanistas History

Los Ebanistas came into being in 1979 as a one man carpentry shop in Northern New Mexico. Los Ebanistas means "The Cabinetmakers" in Spanish. Mark Johnson set up shop in the old catholic school building in Dixon(20 miles south of Taos) and began making Southwestern furniture. Mark had a reverance and respect for the old time "carpinteros" and took pride incorporating old design in new furniture pieces. During the middle 80's Southwestern furniture became very popular and Los Ebanistas had more work than they could handle. Incorporating in 1990: the confines of the old cabinet shop became repetitive and Los Ebanistas expanded its business to the custom home market. What better way to incorporate solid design savvy than to take on larger projects. Los Ebanistas is recognized in the Taos home market for their special aptitude in home construction and incorporating traditional details with modern techniques. Our unique abilities allow us to deliver a more personal product. Most importantly our cabinetmaking expertise allows us to offer custom woodworking elements to our homes at very competitiveprices because unlike other companies we do the cabinets within our own company.
